iRide Car Rental suggests that you supplement your current driver’s license from any foreign country with the International Drivers Permit (IDP) supplementary/supplementary document.

The International Drivers Permit serves as an officially recognized translation of your local license in more than 150 members of the United Nations however it must always be accompanied by your valid local license. A passport-style booklet is issued to certify that the driver holds a valid driver’s license from their permanent place of residence.

For travelers coming from the USA, Canada, Australia, South Africa etc., a driving license issued in these countries is accepted by iRide, but is not accepted by the Greek Police on its own and therefore must be accompanied by a valid International Driving Permit. You can apply for such a licence at one of the many American Federation of Motor Vehicles agencies. The cost is 10 US dollars and the process takes just 10 minutes.

Similarly, if you hold a Greek driver’s license and are planning to travel abroad, please note that many countries outside Greece require you to hold an International Drivers Permit (IDP). Learn more at www.elpa.gr.
